A woman in harmony with her spirit
is like a river flowing.
She goes where she will without pretense
and arrives at her destination,
prepared to be herself
and only herself.

Hello! My name is Verana and I am honored to serve as a full-spectrum doula in the Bay Area.

I believe birth profoundly changes people.
I believe the pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are profound events in the continuum of life which merit deep and whole respect, presence, and support.

My intention is to serve mothers and families to create a safe, loving, trusting birth environment. When the environment feels comfortable and supportive, a woman/birthing person can connect deeper with her instinctual body, settle the part of her mind that organizes and plans, and allow the birthing process to move through her.

I strongly believe in the dignity and sovereignty of each birthing person I serve.
I cannot imagine a more fundamental rite of passage than birth.
I offer presence, guidance, and education for the perinatal journey of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I hold and reflect respect and deep care to the women/birthing persons, families, teams, and spaces that I support.

I believe when we cultivate confidence, love, and trust before and during times of transition, we can hold the places of doubt and fear in compassion and understanding and come into a deeper sense of embodiment and grace.

I work with all families, and support the entire birth team. It is my intention to support and empower partners in their understanding and strength during the birth as they move through their own transition into parenthood. This, I have seen, is a very important part of the birthing journey.

I serve women/birthing persons and families in the East Bay and San Francisco areas.
I am very open and available to support hospital births, home births, and birthing centers births.
I serve all birthing persons, partners, individuals, and families of diverse backgrounds.
I value respect, care, mutual understanding, and honesty.

How did I get involved in this work?
After finding myself, by chance, in a room full of birth professionals in 2015, I immediately recognized the deep need for this work at this time. I felt a strong sense of coming home to something primordial and powerful. I have felt deep care and connection to mothers/birthing persons, families, and the importance of how we bring babies into the world and how this heals, empowers and impacts us.

The place God calls you to
is the place where your deep gladness
and the world's deep hunger meet.

I have been very fortunate and privileged, to have had opportunities to study, live, work, and travel in South America for some formative time, spending growthful and meaningful time with diversity of people and lifestyles, language, music, nature, schools, yoga, and birth.  I value self and collective and exploration, creative expression, and integration of our complex, beautiful, and seemingly fragmented selves, families, and societies.

I am very passionate about anti-racism work and birth activism and awareness.

We are alive at a wildly challenging and important time, where we are asked to be mindful, embodied, and organized individually and collectively to face this world with courage, grace, and authenticity.
I believe bringing babies into the world today in the presence of loving, caring support team an is an act of courage and freedom for all.
